The complete genetic code of the rice plant has been deciphered by UArizona plant sciences researchers. The team is led by Dr. Rod Wing, a key member in BIO5's Genome Structure and Function Consortium. Wing's group developed the framework for and contributed significantly to the International Rice Genome Sequencing Project (IRGSP). The software used to build the map for the rice sequencing collaboration was developed by Dr. Carol Soderlund, a member of BIO5's Quantitative Biology Consortium.
