One of the better-understood parts of the human anatomy, the eye's retina, still holds secrets. Dr. Erika Eggers, associate professor of biomedical engineering, physiology and neuroscience, won two prestigious federal grants totaling nearly $3 million, to elucidate the inner workings of the retina and how they affect eye disease. Ultimately, she aims to reduce the incidence of blindness for millions of people living with diabetes.
