Past studies on the treatment of heart disease patients have shown that men were more likely to be prescribed treatment like aspirin, beta-blockers and statins than women. In contrast, a new study at two large hospitals found no significant difference in the prescription of appropriate medications for men and women with this disease. With these findings, Dr. Shu-Fen Wung, associate professor of nursing, plans to examine why 10% of men and women may still not be getting the correct treatment to manage their disease.
